Hafnium

Hafnium is a silver-gray metal with metallic luster; there are two variants of metallic hafnium: α-hafnium is a hexagonal close-packed variant (1750°C), and its transformation temperature is higher than that of zirconium. The metal hafnium has allotropic transformations at high temperatures. Metal hafnium has a high neutron absorption cross-section and can be used as a control material in reactors.

Melting point: The melting point of hafnium is approximately 2545°C.
Density: The density of hafnium is approximately 13.31 g/cm³.
Mechanical properties: Hafnium has good corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.
Thermal Neutron Absorption Cross Section: Hafnium has a large thermal neutron absorption cross section, which makes it very useful as a control rod material in nuclear reactors.

Nuclear industry: Hafnium is used as a control rod material in nuclear reactors because of its ability to effectively absorb neutrons, thereby controlling the speed of chain reactions.
